Hydraulic Set

1. A type of packer used predominantly in production applications. A hydraulic packer typically is set using hydraulic pressure applied through the tubing string rather than mechanical force applied by manipulating the tubing string.

A hydraulic packer typically is set using hydraulic pressure applied through the tubing string rather than mechanical force applied by manipulating the tubing string.  The hydraulic pressure acts on a piston within the packer and moves to pack off the elements and set the slips firmly in the casing ID.  Hydraulic set packers predominately don’t have any mandrel movement during setting and this can be advantages in some environments (ie. Multiple packers being set simultaneously in one wellbore).
